Hello, friends and peers in the gaming industry, We at Gen Con have decided to offer a 50% refund to Gen Con Indy 2003 Saturday-only attendees due to the extensive line difficulties we had on that day. The details of the offer are below.
I'd like to get this out across the internet anyplace where such a posting would be appropriate. If you have, or regularly frequent, such a site please do me (and the gaming community) a favor by posting the following announcement. This can be posted, emailed, printed, or wadded up and filed in the appropriate receptacle--all I ask is that, when replicated, it be replicated in its entirety. Thanks in advance, I really appreciate your help with this. Peter Adkison Owner/CEO, Gen Con LLC "The best four days in gaming!" www.gencon.com --- An Open Apology From the Gen Con Staff and Saturday Refund Announcement First and foremost, the Gen Con Team would like to thank everyone who came out and supported our first year in Indianapolis. The Gen Con Indianapolis 2003 convention held on July 24-27 was a huge success in many ways, attracting a record-breaking attendance, hosting over 3,600 gaming events, featuring a star-studded celebrity line-up, and the largest collection of games exhibitors ever brought under one roof in the history of the hobby games industry. Unfortunately the convention's success was undermined by intolerably long lines, especially on Saturday. This particularly frustrated attendees who only had time to come to Gen Con for Saturday. Many of the Saturday only crowd spent a disproportionate amount of their time in line, missing out in opportunities to shop, secure celebrity autographs, attend seminars-or play games! Long lines are generally a part of a large-scale show such as Gen Con, and one of the ways we hope to counter your wait on site is by offering pre-registration. Pre-registration enables you to buy your badge through our website (www.gencon.com) and have your badge mailed to you before the show starts. We are also looking at other means of pre-registration to help ease the line problems. While we at Gen Con understand the problems that went wrong with our systems and will fix them, we feel strongly that we need to do something more than just a promise to do better next time, especially for the Saturday-only attendees who suffered the worst. Therefore, we are announcing a partial-refund for those attendees who purchased a Saturday-only badge onsite. To qualify for a partial refund you must have purchased a Saturday one-day badge, on site. Since this program is designed to console those in particular who stood in the long Saturday line and were losing time for the only day at the convention, it does not apply to people who purchased a Saturday one-day badge by pre-registering online. If you qualify for a partial refund mail a photocopy of your Saturday one-day badge (or mail us the original if you have no interest in keeping it as a souvenir) to: Gen Con LLC Saturday Partial Refund 120 Lakeside Ave, Ste 100 Seattle, WA 98122 The photocopy must be of the front of the badge, which includes your name, so that we can check the legitimacy of the badge and also make sure that it wasn't issued to someone who pre-registered. Be sure and include your address either on the envelope or in the letter so we know where to mail the partial refund! Soon after receipt we will mail a check back to the address you indicate. The check will be made out to the name on the badge. The amount of the refund will be $12.00. That's half of the Saturday one-day badge cost of $23.00, plus the cost of your postage, and a few cents more in case you had to pay for a photocopy. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope that you'll give us another try when we return to Indianapolis in the summer of 2004. We promise to have better systems in place next year, resulting in shorter lines! If you want to check out some of what you missed, much of the convention has been archived on our website, www.gencon.com, in the Virtual Gen Con area. For questions, email Peter Adkison at [EMAIL PROTECTED] Feel free to pass this along to any forum where such a posting would be appropriate; all I ask is that it be posted in its entirety. Sincerely yours, The Gen Con team _______________________________________________ Ogf-l mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://mail.opengamingfoundation.org/mailman/listinfo/ogf-l
