Clark, folks like you and Chris seem like really nice guys.  I'd be much more tempted to contact you and show extra deference to people who contribute a lot of OGC and who are very giving folks in general as compared to the people who are less friendly.

I'm a Southerner, so I think kindness should beget more kindness.  I'm just jaded about the process given that so often people don't even respond to requests for clarification on their OGC/PI designation.

It just sort of makes me feel like people tell you that they want you to use stuff more often than they actually want you to use it.  And that bugs me.

I think if more people were more eager to discuss their products, and were less fearful about giving clarifications, and were a bit easier to find on the web, then I'd be more eager to put in the time calling and emailing for permission.

Be a nice guy (or gal).  Be easy to find.  More people will probably ask you and cover your butt in case you were about to release your 2nd printing of some product and need some time to make some profit.
