Your story is similar to mine. I am very enthusiastic about the new D&D.
However I don't see it as threat to the existing games I play. I have
moved to different systems and styles of play as my primary focus through
the years and will likley continueto do so and certain systems fit certain
moods and desires better. From my point of view, if I want an over-the-top
very cinematic style of fantasy gaming then D&D is looking like a real
choice again. However without massively chainging the system as I now see
it, it will never fit most any other style I want to play in. The primary
motivator of what system I play in for a given setting or style is "how much
do I have to change it." And if I need to change a system, I prefer to use
one that is easily modified to that style or setting. In my eyes D&D has a
lot of "setting" built into the rules, and while the rules can and should be
changed, after a while it would be easier to play a different set of rules
for the given setting.

when I post here, but I forgot last post, so I decided to leave it in from
now on)
