OK, but this is not the case with d20. With the OGL, third party companies 
can pick and choose amongst the existing d20 material. WotC will not have 
final say on what is d20. Yes, there are some limitations if you want to use 
the trademark, but apart from those the rules can develop in a myriad of ways 
independent of what WotC is doing. Seems like this leaves plenty of room for 
the rules to evolve.
