Wow, that sucked.

Unfortunately, the problem developed while I was in transit from Milwaukee
to Seattle, and I didn't become aware of it until 9pm.

I had a similar problem happen long ago on the original L5R discussion list,
where a Compuserve member's mailbox filled up. Compuserve used to send the
"mailbox full" message back to the >sender<, which at that time was the
list; result - bad loop.

Since then, I've always set up lists with the x-reply-to: header as the list
name. For nearly five years, I've run lists and never had the problem
repeat. Most mail servers are correctly configured to send bounce messages
to the x-sender address, not the x-reply-to address. I guess we just found
one that wasn't.

Anyway, I've got a lot of cleanup to do to get the log files reduced, the
temp files deleted, and I'm sure many of you are autodeleting or even
unsubscribed from the list. If you are one of the latter, and you've had
this message forwarded to you, it's safe to come back.

This weekend, I'm probably going to upgrade the server to use MailMan, the
GNU list software which has a more sophisticated interface than majordomo.
That will give us some added security.

I apologize for the inconvenience.

Ryan
