I have to interject in here, because I don't really understand what
everyone's jumping about and making all this noise over.
Let's see if I can sum up:
Some of us feel that everyone who uses Open content ought to contribute Open
content, for a variety of reasons including the ongoing strength of the
community, the continued development of Open rules and general moral
quality.
Some of those people disagree as to what constitutes a "contribution".
Some of us feel that contributing Open content is not demanded for all those
who use Open content. Reasons include that simply using Open content
constitutes a contribution (nice bit of alliteration there, if you like that
sort of thing), that not everyone thinks up new rules all the time and
shouldn't be expected to, and that it's simply not a requirement of the OGL.
I think we all agree that the OGL does not demand that those who use Open
content must contribute original Open content of their own.
And I don't think that anyone has suggested it should be altered to make
such demands. Apologies if I missed that.
So what exactly is the issue? The OGL says you don't have to, so there's no
way to force people to do so. If you think it would be best if people did,
then that's one thing. But to moan and hurl insults about -- what's the
point? Use a license that does enforce such rules if that's what you want.
The OGL is clearly not for you.
Maybe you all just like arguing about this stuff. Nah, that couldn't be it.
