The OGL is more BSD-like than GNU-like. GPL does not allow its
material to be incorporated into proprietary works. BSD tolerates
proprietary uses, choosing more exposure over preventing the risk
of not getting access to new additions of the BSD work.
More exposure is a benefit. But in the software world it hasn't
served BSD as well as the enforced access to the entire work as
required by the GPL. GNU/Linux is way more widespread than all
the *BSD systems combined. I'm not disputing it could go out the
other way in open gaming though.
I believe if you want to follow the lead of the free software
movement, companies need to transform into providing services
which help people have a good time gaming. Not just sell them
a bunch of pages they can't get elsewhere. Soon gamers will be
able to get something elsewhere that is good enough and freely
reusable.
