The OGL requires you to assert copyright to new materials you contribute in
your name (or the creator's name if you are publishing something on behalf
of someone else.)

I came away from DiF assuming that everything in the text was Open Game
Content.

Actually, in the final version of the OGL you would also need to identify
"The Yellow Sign" as Proprietary Content if you wished to restrict it's
future distribution.
