If Sony publishes guidelines about how DJs can mix various bits of
its copyrighted tracks in an artistic manner, and encourages people
to do this, I think Sony is in effect stating how you can do that
legally. Whether its guidelines are a license, policy, or waiver is
a point for the lawyers, but if a copyright owner tells me how I
can produce derivative work based on their copyright, I'm going to
take the company at its word.
