Hrm. Ever read Danceys original comments on the license? It's all about
the money. Open source is a great idea because it is a good way to make
money and increase the network effects. It's better than public domain
because it mandates fair play.

Anyone totally, solely, and completely untinterested in money can place
their work in the public domain. Such people are rare. Such people with
ANYTHING OF VALUE TO PRODUCE are even *rarer*.

There's probably over 100,000 print pages of fan-produced D&D stuff out
there. If even 1,000 pages of that are professional quality, I'd be
shocked. Something like the Creature Collection is very unlikely to be
found on http:\\www.freesites.com\~myk00lgamingpage. Not IMPOSSIBLE, but
*unlikely* -- especially not with art that wasn't scanned off a circa
1993 TSR module. (Gods, I hate websites covered with scanned art.
There's so many reasonably talented semi-pros out there who would be
happy to provide original illos for small fees and exposure. No, I'm not
one of them -- I couldn't draw a straight line with a ruler if I lived
in a 2D universe.)
