I am at a bit of a loss regarding the following comments. I think I
understand what Ryan is stating but I don't understand why it is working out
this way. Can someone please clarify this for me?

My confusion lies with this question. How is

"Your character is bit by a radioactive spider. Gain the Wall Climbing Feat
and the SpiderSense Feat"

any different than

"Bitten By Radioactive Spider: Get an extra Background Feat and an extra 2
Power Feats"

other than naming the feats? If the Plot Hook or Background or whatever name
it takes requires that the character gets only certain feats how can that be
described legally. Does it require description by exclusion. "Take any feat
except Dodge, Eye Beams, Great Fortitude, etc." until the only feats left as
an option are the ones required of the Plot Hook? I certainly hope not. That
seems both opaque and excessively verbose.

On the same note:

Ryan---

>If you defined a whole new category of character abilities, >say "Edges",
>and you had text that said "You are from another planet. >Gain the X-Ray
>vision Edge, and the Leap Tall Buildings Edge", that >would be OK, unless
>you tried to get clever and have "Edges" >essentially be "Skills" or
>"Feats" (which are both defined terms in >the Guide, and broadly defined at
>that), in which case you'd get >nailed anyway. You'd have to create a set

>rules for Edges that made them something other than Skills or Feats.

What if these "Edges" were feats and defined as such, say, Edge Feats and
had a different advancement scheme than the usual feats. Such as:

Ubermensch gain a bonus Edge Feat every other level. They may only select
Edge Feats with the use of these bonus feats.

or

Ubermensch begin play with 5 bonus Edge Feats.

Legal?

Thank you.
