I think that there are *very* valid reasons for other game systems--for
example, AD&D had no rules for ships, and was comic-book style in its
HP. (Still is, but that's become "D&D style" of its own.)
I can't speak for Keith, but there are some who construe Ryan's "if TSR
had opened OD&D we wouldn't have all these game systems" to mean "if TSR
had done that, we'd only have D&D and variants."
