As I recall, the Palladium system has it's origins in a AD&D campaign.
The DM and his players kept tweaking the rules, adding spell points,
changing armor, making up new alignments, etc. until they felt that they had
the perfect system and decided to publish. Palladium is basically AD&D with
tons of house rules... enough that it certainly qualifies as a distinct
system in it's own right, but the framework is still visible.
