I agree 100% with you, Maggie. There's still a lot of good debate on the
list, but I began to wonder, too. What
happened to all the hope and dreams? Why is the enthusiasm over D20 being
replaced by sarcasm and useless
tit for tat ego-whipping? Why can't people see how useful these licenses
are?

That is, I wondered until I stumbled upon the UberConspiracy (tm) to subvert
the D20 list by a group known
collectively as "the sallys".

Here's my evidence: <start rant>

This list has changed from an interesting forum for debate re: the
OGL/D20STL into the "let's argue about
ridiculous minutiae" list. Let's beat that dead horse until it rises from
the dead so we can beat it to death again. Let's
speculate how Perry Mason would handle THIS particular D20 conundrum, eh?
Yes he would! No he wouldn't! Hey -
IANAL!! lol

Speaking of Perry, this list has changed into the lawsuit conspiracy list:
"We're gonna get sued! We're gonna get sued!" I'd bet dollars to donuts that
half of you whiners don't even have
a pot to piss in, let alone anything to lose (and I'd bet even more money
that you'll never produce anything anyway). And
if you DO lose anything, it's your OWN DAMN FAULT. Learn how to set up a
company. Understand how to work with the OGL
and D20STL. That's what you should be talking to a lawyer about, not "What's
the downstream liability of some retard who can't be
bothered to read the PI list included with every D20 work that contains PI?"

How hard is it for some folks to understand that you just DON'T USE SOMEONE
ELSE'S PI IN YOUR
WORKS?? You don't have to call friggin Johnny Cochran for confirmation on
that one. Use your heads for
chrissake. It takes about 5 minutes to grok the basics of the OGL/D20STL.
And who cares about the people that
can't figure that out? They're like those squirrels that are too stupid to
get out of the road when the car comes: food for
the crows.

This list has changed into the WotC Octopus Conspiracy list:
Has anyone read what Ryan Dancey has been saying? The RPG end of Hasbro
barely rates a line item in their
books. Do you really think some big-time corporate lawyer from Hasbro is
gonna be worried about your pissant
little company stealing from their bottom line? These guys spend more on
cigars than what you'll ever make
as a game company. Use the OGL/D20STL as intended, and you'll be fine.
THAT'S WHAT IT'S THERE FOR. Safe Harbor,
anyone? Some of the new D20 companies are very successful so far, and
although they've hit a few OGL bumps, they haven't been
crushed by WotC....Why??? Figure it out. And if you can't work within the
strictures of the licenses as set, DON'T USE THEM. Pretty simple, huh?

This list has changed from the D20 list into the "Let's use the D20 List to
promote our own <insert name here>20(tm) list".
Please start your own list if you folks want to create your own trademarks.
Co-opting Ryan's server (and goodwill) to push
your own agenda is lame. Frankly, I'm tired of hearing about "How can we
use D20, but not use D20?"

I don't know this Ryan Dancey guy from Adam, but I think what he's done is
unbelievable: opened the D20 rules to independant
developers. What's better than that?? This guy's busting his ass nights to
give everyone the chance to make money doing something they
love, and all you people (and you know who you are) want to do is bitch
about it and figure out how to subvert it, instead of coming
together as a community to strengthen the very thing that's going to allow
you to do what you have always wanted to do. I know that many of
you probably have been dreaming about publishing games for a long time, but
were unable to do so because of TSR's draconian restrictions.
Now that you have the chance, and a VP in WotC who is obviously on your
side, you cry foul.

What a bunch of sallys.

<end rant>

PS-Don't bother replying, 'cause I ain't trolling for chowderheads.

Why can't we just work to make the OGL serve everyone's needs. You all are
assuming you need these new things based on some really lame evidence. Why
aren't you all willing to give the OGL a fair try first? This is what I
don't understand. Ryan told me over a year ago that the OGL was the result
of a very long series of drawn out discussions. IIRC, it was around the
same time you all were trying to help me put two and two together and
convince me the the OGL was great and easy to interpret!!!!!

... but it's like everyone is doing a 180 and I don't understand why. What
changed?

I'm sorry to bring this

It's not a contradiction; it's a redundancy based on the OGL. I don't want
to have a mark that, if Green Ronin slaps on a Freeport module, then lets
*anyone* take it and make a twisted, "just plain wrong" version of "Green
Ronin's Freeport." Admitidly, the "no trademarks" rule probably already
covers this, but it never hurts to be safe.
