interesting idea. however, even assuming the inital logo includes
versions for the dozen or two most-common "types" of content,
someone'll surely put something else out in fairly short order. in
any case, it sounds like you're operating on the assumption that
we're talking about D20-based material, still, and the initial point
o this was for non-D20 WOGLed material. the D20 logo is already
quite sufficient, IMHO, for SRD expansions--rarely will you run into
the situation where you want to make something that is compatible
with D20, but violates the D20STL, other than complete other-genre
games (which, based on the current crop of products, still seems like
"rarely" to me). what we need is something that isn't explicitly
linked to the D20SRD. for that reason, i'd say going out of our way
to make sure it doesn't even imply "D20" is a good idea--we're trying
to dissociate "D20" and "open content" in the consumer's mind, since
they are probably almost synonymous right now. so, for starters, no
icosahedrons in the logo. i *really* like the simple visual
representation of the d6 with the top open like a toybox.

just to throw another wrench into the fire: howabout broadening the
logo slightly, to potentially increase its circulation. instead of
"5% OGC, as defined by the WotC OGL" to qualify, make it "5% Open
Content, as defined by an open content license approved by the
OGF"--this would allow stuff under the DRL and the OOGL to qualify,
too. oh, and i would suggest upping the content requirement
slightly--say, 10%--for the logo to have a bit more meaning. not so
much that it's a philosophical salvo by the
the-more-open-content-the-better crowd, which could easily end up
scaring off producers who aren't willing to "undermine" themselves by
giving that much away, but not so little that it can be easily
meaningless. another possible requirement would be "at least one
item of original OGC"--so you can't get the logo just by reproducing
others' OGC. this could be in conjunction with or instead of the
%age requirement. though it changes the tenor of the logo somewhat
if you do that--not sure exactly what people are going for.

If any religion is right, maybe they all have to be right. Maybe God
doesn't care how you say your prayers, just as long as you say them.
