My "understanding" came from personal conversations with people involved 
and, since Mike has countermanded me, it is apparently my mis-understanding.

Alec, I agree 100%.

As I UNDERSTOOD it, the MAMMOTH document was Michael's baby - to make a 
complete free game out of the SRD.  This has been his stated objective from 
the very beginning.  For him and the people working on the Mammoth doc, the 
Free20 monikor is simply a way to refer to their document and a good way to 
allow other producers (free AND for publication) to reference that document 
directly.

Could be wrong.  Have been before ...
