Well, they are no different from EXT's IMHO because you
might have a heterogeneous configuration with one OpenGL 1.2
and one OpenGL 1.3 implementation.

What is a core function to one implementation could be non-existant
to another.

You could (and someone surely will) argue that heterogeneous drivers
are all well and good - but heterogeneous core OpenGL revisions is
insanity...tell that to John Q. Public when he gets his shiney
new OpenGL 1.3-based card.

Dunno - but it seems to me that once you are going for heterogenity
you might as well go all the way.
