I am confused by the reference to "graying out" here.

Falling back to BMP after failing at PNG is probably what I am seeing. Seems
logical

If you click the system menu, that is the upper left corner of the window, the
familiar restore, move, size, minimize, maximize, close selections are
accompanied by "Options". If you run the Options dialog, you'll see the
screenshot formats that are selectable.

Yes. If d3dx9_24.dll is not present on the system, the fallback is to the ohr
bmp format. The formats should be grayed out. I've actually never tested this.
Are they grayed out?
