Oh. I've just discovered:

-sprite_empty_cache doesn't actually free leaked sprites, because doingso would
cause a crash if they're still referenced somewhere (a refcounting bug)

-bug 821 is about enemy sprites not being freed when leaving a game. And it is
indeed still happening, I just tested it

so I'll change this to be just about the null map layer pointers
