No, wait, I'm perfectly willing to make changes, just trying to find a way to 
change something that will help you but still keep the advantages of 
distributing the PDF file for everybody else!

How about a build target that would rebuild the docs?  Then you wouldn't need 
to customize anything other than doing a 'make docs' in addition to a 'make 
all', and you'd be able to say that your build made everything from scratch?

Is it really true that the original package cannot contain anything that could 
be rebuild from source, or is it merely that you must build everything from 
source (even if the package gives you the option of using the one that comes 
with it)?
