Your assessment is incomplete. There's times you want more margins than the ones the document has, for wathever reasons you may have, there's time in which you want an exact 1:1 print of the document and will be happy to get lost content if the important content which is usually at the center is correctly to scaled. This is something you can't solve by not having an option if you want to do right.
