I'm cleaning up titles that have extraneous appendages on them, such as series names. Right now I'm only working on works with a single edition.
Many have a series name appended to the title, where the series name indicates a physical format, such as: http://openlibrary.org/works/OL1956408W Currently: Work Title: Liver Cookies (Apple Paperbacks) Edition Title: Liver Cookies (Apple Paperbacks) Series: [empty] Format: [empty] I assume this should be Work Title: Liver Cookies Edition Title: Liver Cookies Series: Apple Paperbacks Format: Paperback Is it safe to assume the format should be set to paperback if it is currently empty and the series name contains it? How about if the parentheses make it a little more ambiguous? http://openlibrary.org/works/OL15299932W/ Currently: Work Title: Fungus That Ate My School (Scholastic Bookshelf (Paperback)) Edition Title: Fungus That Ate My School (Scholastic Bookshelf (Paperback)) Series: [empty] Format: Unknown binding What should the series be? Should it be "Scholastic Bookshelf", or "Scholastic Bookshelf (Paperback)"? And (as above) should the format be set to paperback if it is blank? What about "unknown"? (My favorite is the mismatched format and series like: http://openlibrary.org/works/OL1927199W I'm not touching those...) Thanks for any advice. - Alan _______________________________________________ Ol-discuss mailing list [email protected] http://mail.archive.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/ol-discuss To unsubscribe from this mailing list, send email to [email protected]
