Do you mean you have seen a cover on an edition, but it disappeared after some
time?

Looks like there is a duplicate edition.

http://openlibrary.org/books/OL3674962M/The_time_traveler's_wife

It looks like this one had a cover, but OL23271188M didn't had cover.

The books API used to return OL3674962M earlier, but started returning
OL23271188M now. The behavior of Books API is not very well defined in case of
conflicts like this.

It looks like the same issue. There are two identical editions, both published
by Pantheon Books in 2006. One has a cover and other doesn't.

I think the best thing to do right now is to make the Books API pick the one
with cover if there is a conflict. The right solution is to get rid of the
duplicate editions.
