Dear all,

I'd like to start a discussion on improvement of Open Library's RDF
output. I had asked OL Support for inclusion of the Work URI in a
Book's RDF, but was asked to redirect my question/feature request
here.

I envision myself using OL as a reference catalog for my personal book
collection, modeled as Linked Data. My catalog could consist of, at
the very minimum, RDF triples like: <URI that identifies the book
(Item) in my bookcase> <http://purl.org/vocab/frbr/core#exemplarOf>
<URI that identifies an Edition of a Work in OL>. Looking up the
latter should retrieve everything I need to know about the edition and
the work.

In the output of Edition records as RDF I notice:
- there is no link from an Edition of a Work to the Work;
- the list of authors (bibo:authorList) is empty, or rather: it's a
line break and some whitespace. Extra contributors, added when editing
an edition, are not included.

In the output of Work records as RDF, I see:
- the relation between <dcterms:creator> and name (a Literal) is
<rdf:value>, whereas I'd expect something like <foaf:name>;
- the record of a Work contains descriptions of its Editions, which do
contain the URI of the Work it manifests, but the URI is a quoted
literal instead of an rdf:resource;
- there is a lot of whitespace.

What do others think? Not every point raised here needs as much
attention as the rest, of course.

Regards,

Ben Companjen
