Hi Tom,

Your view of citations as content may perhaps be refined to "metadata
of content", whereas OL records mostly record "metadata of the
product". Mostly, not only, as there are work descriptions, excerpts,
classifications and subject terms.
I tend to see OpenLibrary as an online library, although it is more a
library catalogue than a place to get books. I think a catalogue
becomes more useful if direct relationships among works can be
recorded and shown. (You didn't say that you think citations should
not be recorded, by the way.)
The FRBR relationships "Critique of" and "Parodied as" are also in the
Citation Ontology and I agree that these relationships are types of
citations.

I agree that the list of FRBR relationships may be simplified, but the
designers may have had good reason to keep it like this. OL could
introduce a few relationship types at a time and see how that works
out; I don't think the complete list will ever be supported.
