It seems totally weird to me to veto functionality that users find useful,
but as an interim step I've created the bookmarklet that you requested.
 Just create a bookmark with a mnemonic name, e.g. "OL MARC", and use the
following line for the content:

javascript:var epub = document.querySelector("div#readBooks
a[href*=epub]").getAttribute('href'); var marc =
epub.replace(".epub","_archive_marc.xml");window.open(marc);

If you're on an OL edition page which links to an ePub, it'll open the MARC
record in a new window when you click the bookmark.
