OK, thanks rk and kc. That clarifies things a lot.

Subject: Re: [ol-tech] lending library

The OL lending library system works differently for print disabled and
non-printdisabled readers.

As you point out, you can borrow EPUB and PDF. But we also make Protected DAISY
files of these books available for print-disabled readers.

If you want to read a Protected DAISY, a reader must first register with the
Library of Congress National Library Service for the Blind and Physically
Handicapped:
http://www.loc.gov/nls/

After registering, the reader must then purchase a hardware player that
supports text-to-speach as well as playing Protected DAISY files encrypted with
the NLS key (such as the Humanware Victor Stream):
http://www.daisy.org/tools/hplayback

Then, you can download Protected DAISY files, load them on your player, and
listen to them.

To answer your points #2 and #3:
The one-copy limit is for EPUB and PDF. Protected DAISY does not go through the
same system. Instead you need to complete the NLS registration and obtain a
player. Those books are not subject to the one-copy limit. If you are not a
print-disabled reader registered with NLS, then you need to borrow the book,
and wait for its return if someone else is borrowing it.
