The new tune-up procedure Nate did would help. Its in my how-to section. What I always do is turn on the ignition, open the distributor cap and with a small screwdriver, rock the points a little. If you get spark there, chances are its not an electrical issue. Then, once I see some sparking there, I take some starting fluid, remove the air cleaner, and squirt a little down the throat of the carb. Making sure its fully choked after the squirt but not before, I try to start it. If it takes off for a very short second, clean your fuel filter and grind the starter long enough to get gas from the tank to the carb. If it doesnt start, remove the gas line at the carb, run the starter to see if you get gas spurting out. If you have nice gas flow, the carb is probably in need of a kit. Thats easy. If there is no spurting, the fuel pump is bad. That happens alot because the diaphram is made of rubber and it just gets all crusty and stops doing its job.
Dont let anyone else do it. You will be so proud of yourself when you figure it out, you will want to drive it all the time. Ole Red has never started after a year. I need a way to sit at the wheel and know if the plugs are getting fire. I have no assistant and no one in this area will work on anything this old. I guess the economy must be better than I think. Ole Red has a 52 235 engine. ------------------------------------ Ole Chevy and GMC trucks rule!
