Now you bring up another point. My Astro I believe, has the same 4.6 Vortec. I love the power and performance of it, and I have never had a problem with the engine. Just change the oil and filter religiously. Like I said earlier, it has the Dexcool, but I haven't had a problem, 118,000 miles and still going. The problems I have with it are alignment and suspension related, which in turn chews up tires. It came out of the shop about 2 months ago with new brakes and shocks all around and laser alignment. 4 new tires were put on the month before. It still doesn't ride like new, and I figure it never will again.
But I don't want to get rid of it because GM stopped making it and I still think it's the best van in it's class. Lots of power, lots of room, AWD can tow a ski boat and all the gear, and carries 7 passengers. Green James, better late then never... :-) my 1/2 ton chevy had that crap, and it took me forever to get it cleaned up... by the time I was done, the 4.6 junk vortec was gone, and a nice new 350 was put in ht's place.. new rad, elec. fans, carb4b.. :-) no computer hooked up, and all is well.... now it's back to work on the cutlass, I am sure she needs a bath... :-) john orr
