Thanks for all your help. Other symptoms that have developed are: Oil
extremely black, although I changed it last week, tremendous loss of
power and lots of clanking and chattering noise when accelerating. The car
is parked and It is definitely time for a rebuild.
The engine is a 350 backed by a TH350. My easiest choice would
probably be to go with a short block so I can still use my original heads and
Thorley headers. But I'm thinking maybe drop in a 455/TH400 short tail
instead.
Comments would be really appreciated. Chris, Steve ( or anyone else feel
free to chime in)
