Correct. The automatic transmission W-30s used the 308º duration cam from the W-31, whereas the manual trans W-30s used the long overlap 328º duration cam. My neighbor back in Texas let me drive his 33,000 mile 1971 W-30 convertible: TH400, power brakes, and AC. The idle was no where near the same as the manual trans W-30 cars.

Okay, for '70 and later. What about '68-'69 W30 400s? I don't believe a '68-'69 W30 or would arrive from the factory to the dealer's receiving dept. with AC. According to my very old and yellow paged NHRA/AHRA Super Tuning and Blueprinting Olds "W" Machines manual, a '68-'69 W30, which is still a 400G, only had the 328 degree cam and used it with both the 4-speed and TH400 versions, using the same 4MV #7029254 carb for both transmissions.

That also means that '69 red convertible with the 455 on eBay is a complete fraud. There's asolutely no way a 455 can be in it and still be *numbers matching*.
