Bruce,

The Toro may have the right pickup for a deep pan, but
isn't it standard volume? Any pump can have the restricted
flow pressure raised by increasing spring pressure, what
is a good way to check the pressure?

The rest of what I wrote refers to making a new pickup or using one from Milodon. The stock pickup will not work.

For the pressure, it's just rule of thumb. For more flow volume, more pressure will be needed to move it. If one wants to use a stock capacity oil pan (5 quart), then stick with the stock oil pump. If more oil capacity is wanted, 7 or 8 quarts, then go with the Toro oil pump or the Melling M22FHV and use the pickup that fits the new pan, or make one to fit. The pickups for the Toro oil pump and for that particular Melling oil pump are completely different.
