Chris,
I've been looking through my '71 assembly manual...
Also, does anyone happen to have a semi-comprehensive list of all
the
components of such an a/c system, which are expendable, and which I
can buy
off the shelf?
You should be able to determine most of that by using the assembly manual
and the shop manual.
I know I'm missing a few hoses and the canister that
attaches
to the hose, judging from looking on my friend's 72. Where can I
source
hoses, first and foremost?
NAPA can make AC hoses to fit. NAPA has extensive AC component guides and
listings.
Can heater hose and the A/C crimp ends
substitute?
Never in a million years. First, even R12 hose is double reinforced triple
walled. The high side can run at 400 PSI. Only very high quality AC designed
hose will work for R12. For R-134, it's worse, with teflon lining required
to prevent the R-134 molecule from migrating through the hose.
