Al I was trying to do is to tickle thought on what and how cars are termed.
Guess in my mind that had some bearing on what some people, or all people
would feel is a true factory muscle car. More than one way to look at things
I guess and how that affects our perceptions on cars in particular.
I also, as all of us call A body cars intermediates. But I also at the same
time acknowledge that is really just a perception, one shared by most out
there, but not fact. Same as to the various factory type muscle cars out
there. For some one to say exactly what one is depends upon there particular
perception or reference, with really no hard facts to substantiate and
particular car.
I am a bit more broad out there than most on my factory muscle car
definition. I take it to mean any car that has a limited production, high
performance engine installed at the factory. To me that would include such
things as the lowly previously mentioned Cosworth Vega, or even <gasp> even
possibly front wheel drive cars.
Now if you want to say legendary factory muscle cars of the sixties, then
these would not be included, but then most books do not list my old 1968
SS427 ( very limited production, 1776 made in three body styles) as a true
factory muscle car as it was based on the Impala size chassis in comparison
to the smaller Chevelle chassis. I can attest to many SS396 Chevelle's
eaten for lunch with my "non muscle car". Unfortuantly at the time I had
not discovered Oldsmobile's, and all my friends were into Chevys, so I don't
know how I would have done against a hot 442 / Cutlass.
Bu then, possibly I am mixing up limited production cars with muscle cars, a
different topic for another day.
