About preventing the next unwanted underground home makers. While in High School, I worked at a "Previously Service Tested" Auto Parts Emporium. (junk yard to the uninformed) They had all the cars in the lot up on blocks. Seems the little critters don't like the bright sun light. To keep the rats, snakes, ants, etc. out of the cars spread some wheel bearing grease around the top block. BUT IT WONT WORK ON THE WASPS!!!! Always carry a can of spray carburetor cleaner with you that fixes them quick. As a bonus the extra height keeps the bottom of the cars from rusting by letting the air get to it!
