but it is a type O, and the one ratio I have long coveted: 3.42
- -----------------------
Nice score Chris! I have one of those, too. It's a '68 TL code HD 31
spline axle shaft model, which was supposedly used behind MT OAI cars in
'67 and '68 only.
==================
68 AM lists it as the std issue AT no-AC 442 diff.
Available on many others also, M14, M20, M21 transes...
Do you know if yours is a 31 spline unit? I remember
someone saying a while back that all 3.42 and up ratios in '67-'68 were
31 spline units, but I have never heard that from any other source so I
am not sure of its validity.
===============
68 AM says same axle as used in the 3.90 diffs. Most economical of the
Performance Axles I guess.
Says carrier is '633 which is not listed as same for any other ratio [WTH?].
I'm a bit behind you in my collection - I
have a 2.56, a 3.23 posi, and the 3.42 HD 31 spline rear. I do have a
set of Richmond 3.90s that will one day replace the 2.56s and make that
one a useful rear, though.

At over $3 a gallon for the CHEAP stuff, the 2.56 is starting to look like
the MOST useful ratio these days.
