It is across the board. The additives are being reconfigured due
to the
new EPA regs for diesel emissions. The expressed concern is that some
of the additives in the current oils will contaminate the after
treatment systems rendering them less effective.
So, as with catcons and unleaded fuels, the powers that be decide
that it's easier to change the fuel (or oil in this case) instead of
designing the emissions device to work with what we already have. I
suppose that spreads the cost burden out between the vehicle
manufacturers and the oil companies, but of course it's the consumer
that pays for it in the end, regardless.
