I live in NJ. I arranged to buy a TransAm for my son. The car was in Ohio.
My problem: I wasn't going to send money for a car I had not yet
seen.
His problem: He wasn't giving up his car to a guy he never met before, or
accept a cashier's check (which could be phony).
Solution: I arranged with my bank to transfer the money when I called them
from my cell phone after seeing the car. He would wait to hear from his bank
that the money was deposited before giving up the car.
I got his routing number (his bank branch) and account number.
I arranged to meet the guy halfway, in PA.
We saw the car, liked it and made the call to my bank transferring money
from my account to his.
His bank called his cell saying the money was safely in his account.
We went our own ways.
That's the way to do it.
