Steven,
With all due respect. I know you are trying to be helpful, but your advice
is terribly wrong.

If you think they are goig to check, they
peobably won't. They hardly ever check college
degrees,
The reason companies ask for references is because they check them. Not only
to verify dates of employment (and educational background) but also to see
if the candidate is technically qualified, if he was productive, got along well
 with others, etc.

besides list a friend who is a bussiness
owner, a corp. name does not indicate the type of
bussiness it is involved in.
They check the line of business as well to determine if it is pertinent to
their business.

Give them what they want
on paper and have your friend back you up should they
call him. I'm sure a friend will back you up on it.
One of my Corp.s' name is Blue key........what does it
do?...............Dairy Queen Franchise! It could be
a Business that does the type of production that they
are looking for. If they were to call me I would back
up what you gave me on paper, done deal. They sure as
hell aren't going to check and see what kind of
Bussiness the corp. is in engaged in. Remember, give
them what they want. The worst that could ever happen
is they fire you years down the road if they ever
found out.
And you would carry the stigma of having lied to an employer, and risk your
most important attribute, your good name!

After you have a job that you would never
have anyway. Take the key from the politicians they
lie about their qualifications all the time.
That's a good example of how NOT to be. Your job history will follow you
wherever you go. Even politicians are found out when they lie about college
education or war here status. They are finished with politics and with their
friends and family as well.

Create
what ever it is they want, they will not go far to
verify it, besides there's no one they could tell so
it would never affect you in the future, it's not like
a credit check history!
Tell them the truth. If they hire you on that basis and it doesn't work out
you've lost nothing. If you lie, you may forget what you've told them and end
up living that lie.
One more piece of advice, if you lie to someone you care about, you've lost
that relationship. If you lie to someone you don't care about, you're a dummy!
If you don't care about them, why bother?

BTW, I've been in the employment business twenty five years.
