  Must be some misconfiguration. Advantages of grub legacy are that
(some) people should be more comfortable with it, e.g. I did a lot
of grub hacking starting in 2000, so I know almost all of its
internals, not so much of grub2. Other big advantage is gfxboot.
I do not think SuSE wants to throw away all the work they did in
gfxboot, so worth to look what they are doing.
  Major problem with grub legacy is that it relies on a lot of
"ancient" gas and gcc behaviour, and that can break easily if
only we are using it. It already broke with gcc 4.6 and required
some debugging and use of an "obscure" gcc option to regenerate
a working boot loader.

  Grub legacy options to create themes (with gfxboot patches) is
a lot more powerful than what is grub2, but upstream grub2...
