Dear all

A while ago this text was drafted by Colin (many thanks) and edited by you guys

I now plan to make a blogpost about this and it would be very nice to have a
bookmark on the landing page "philosophy" for example? and to have this text
easily accessible. Infra team, what would you say?

It is important for community to know, that what we do is not only about the
technical work, that this great distribution has a philosophy and idea behind.

If you have suggestions to changes or comments, please do this before 22.00
UTC monday, March 10th- this is when I plan to publish

 Cheers

 Kate

The OpenMandriva Philosophy
The group and Community, who are OpenMandriva, wish to create a superlative
Linux distribution that will be of the highest quality. To us the term
distribution is inadequate to describe what we wish to achieve. To us a
distribution consists not only of the operating system that is produced, but
also the group of people that produce it and the community that supports it. In
order to achieve this goal, we need to have a higher aim than just assembling a
few thousand packages into an iso and making it available on the Internet.
At OpenMandriva we feel that the continuation of the Open Source movement is a
most important ideal not only from the point of view of providing free
software, but to ensure that the power of information technology is freely
available to all; these are the principles on which the forerunners of the
OpenMandriva distribution were founded. The OpenSource movement is maturing and
has reached the point where those joining now may not remember its formation.
OpenMandriva hopes that as a group we will be able to continue the tradition of
Free Software and the Open Source movement. In doing so we hope to create a
community environment which pursues professional standards as it's primary aim.
These professional goals will be set by the implementation of standards that
are created and agreed by the OpenMandriva community. The core philosophy of
these standards will be driven by the need to encourage and nurture new
contributors to all parts of the OpenMandriva community and ultimately to
create an operating system in which all contributors may be proud.

We create and mature highly professional environment, for those who wish to
find their way in Open Source, for newcomers to gain skills in a friendly
atmosphere of collaborators working on a common goal. Students or those who
want to upgrade their skills; developers, designers, translators, infra and QA
experts: there is open and
