That's correct, updates should go to contrib/updates, not to contrib/release.

But this is the thing which is automatically managed by ABF. Paltform admins should mark a platform as 'released' and then all new builds will be published to 'updates' repository.

But this is completely opaque for maintainers and ABF users - they just build packages for 'contrib' or 'main' repos, as usual.
