Currently, /usr/bin/python is python 2.7.x, and packages needing either python
2 or python 3 are built for python 2.
It's probably time to make 3.x the default and start dropping support for 2.x

This is a huge mistake , fedora in the last 2 years helps the
developers to switch to pyhton3egg,
and they have all the python under WIP still now,
Arch even worse they try to involve the AUR people to fix the python on
arch...
and so on ...
nobody is really ready to drop python2.7 for 3.x as default,
and those who done it they have A REALLY BIG MANPOWER, in packaging...
and still they struggle to have a decent python....
Mark my words... this is a mistake...
