I tried Weston build 10257 and Hawaii build 10271. In the Weston I went
to TTY2 logged in as live and typed 'papyros-shell' and got this:
QXcbConnection: Could not connect to display
Aborted (core dumped)
Got exact same error in Hawaii DVD when logged in as live and entering
'hawaii'.
In both 'weston-launch' did log in to a very minimal desktop.
'weston-launch' desktop seemed identical for both DVD's. All there was
at top of screen a menu panel with date and time and icon for weston
terminal. Right click or left click of mouse on desktop and menu panel
do nothing. So I'm wondering if 'weston-launch' is supposed to lead to
same thing as 'hawaii' or 'papyros-shell'?

You may try that iso on real hardware. Don't be worry it won't destroy your
system. Just boot in, then in VT (you have to switch manyally ctl+alt+f2) mode
log in as live (non-root user, password is empty) and type in console:
weston-launch
or
papyros-shell
to get the feeling of how wayland works.
