Another point worth mentioning is that while ben79 and Blackcrack may
like the full featured Drakx installer that doesn't necessarily mean a
majority or users do. It is possible that a majority or users prefer a
simple installer. Many people find having to many decisions to be
irritating or intimidating. This was a major point of Rosa folks when
2011 was in development, supposedly supported by market surveys they had
done.

IMHO the Drakx installer was/is one of the best Linux installers ever.
Maybe the best. OpenSuse installer is pretty good as well. Anaconda
started out as a good installer but Fedora managed to make it
progressively worse, also IMHO. Where is the source .rpm or code for
the Drakx installer? Who uses it today? Does Mageia still use it?
PCLINUXOS? What language is it written in? Does OpenMandriva have any
developers that know how to make it work? My understanding is that to
use it today it would need to be completely rewritten in some other
language. Is that correct? Would there be a possibility to expand
Calamares to have the functionality of Drakx installer?
Blackcrack I, too, wish we could have Drakx installer but it is
probably more realistic to hope for a boot.iso that would install from
Internet or hard drive like Mandriva also used to have. And if we are
able to come up with such will it be possible for user to select
Plasma5, LXQt, Other Desktop, or minimal install? Is there a way to do
it so user can select individual packages as well as select desktop
choice?
Maybe another way to approach this is to ask what about current
installers is lacking. To me it is ability to select desktop and to
select/unselect individual packages. We also used to be able to select
whether to do a Server or Desktop (Workstation) install. That would
make OpenMandriva unique if we could do these things as most (but not
all) installers today won't do this.
What won't work is to try to go backwards to an installer whose
authors aren't around any longer. Or if they are they where are they
and would they help OpenMandriva?
