Hi Ben :)

this is why i want back the original installer, but we have not enough
manpower for maintaining the DrakX installer . to use the other installer for MDK2011 was an big fail, but therewith was bring in an installer for changing the game at end, where was the "Game" in full run.. in Bernie Lomax, the 2012 release
was the original installer also used too, because, there was known
to be Mandriva Linux no more exist, and there was no matter
if an crap installer used or the Original DrakX good and well installer where
makes the success with 1/3 between rpmdrake and drakconf.
Well, if you know anyone who maybe can maintain the DrakX installer
and it is an good team player and good guy, bring him to us and in the community..
your english it's much better as my one *g*
and you'd have been there yesterday, on any Wednesday meeting
at 5:00pm english time in the cooker chan in irc, you you know what's goes on,
but up to this, i wait to say anything before itchka say anything :)

best regards

IMHO the Drakx installer was/is one of the best Linux installers ever. Maybe the best. OpenSuse installer is pretty good as well. Anaconda started out as a good installer but Fedora managed to make it progressively worse, also IMHO. Where is the source .rpm or code for the Drakx installer? Who uses it today? Does Mageia still use it? PCLINUXOS? What language is it written in? Does OpenMandriva have any developers that know how to make it work? My understanding is that to use it today it would need to be completely rewritten in some other language. Is that correct? Would there be a possibility to expand Calamares to have the functionality of Drakx installer?

Blackcrack I, too, wish we could have Drakx installer but it is probably more realistic to hope for a boot.iso that would install from Internet or hard drive like Mandriva also used to have. And if we are able to come up with such will it be possible for user to select Plasma5, LXQt, Other Desktop, or minimal install? Is there a way to do it so user can select individual packages as well as select desktop choice?

Maybe another way to approach this is to ask what about current installers is lacking. To me it is ability to select desktop and to select/unselect individual packages. We also used to be able to select whether to do a Server or Desktop (Workstation) install. That would make OpenMandriva unique if we could do these things as most (but not all) installers today won't do this.

What won't work is to try to go backwards to an installer whose authors aren't around any longer. Or if they are they where are they and would they help OpenMandriva?

Hi Peoples,

i have thing, we should not take easy screenshoot's,
well i have made videos of the install from our Mandrakelinux
and Mandriva linux from the DrakX installer and custom install,
what's on this place it is maybe more interesting..

http://www.blackysgate.de/files/folder-root/Mandriva-install-movies

what it is also interresting.. what i had not able to handle it, the online install, i have try different versions of outdatet Distriebutions with the boot.iso,
it has nomore works..
1. the headserver from Mandriva it's gone (naturally )
2. i have try offten to type manual the ftp's in, had also not really works ..
and then to become finish, did i have easy make the movies from the
installprozedure, what's on this point for itkcha more interesting it is.. for make it able to have an custom installation like it is/was in Mandrake and Mandriva Standart and also in Bernie Lomax ! The last Distriebution 2012 of Mandriva. the 2011 installer was really the last crap in my opinion and it's right, on the 2011 it is the installer include where it used by our first version..
and it was an fail to change the installer.. ... ... holy ..

how ever, i wish you all many fun by view the movies :)
