hi
i basically agree, but i think we should go to 1.17.4 not 1.18.0.
1.17.4 will still be support for a good while to come, it's had time to
mature etc.
FWIW it doesn't seem like there's any real pressure from the drivers to
get updated, as far as I can tell AMD support from X.org 7.4, Nvidia
seem to go back even further.
I think we do need to update, as 1.15 has not been supported upstream
for a while now, but i think we don't want to waste too much time
updating loads of stuff in 2014 if we're ever going to get 2015 out, we
just do not have the manpower. Therefore something that has been around
a bit already seems like the most sensible choice.
thanks
cris.

Hi,
i'd like to raise the topic of updating x11 stack for 2014.x.
Hi,
fully agreed...
For essentially the same reasons, I think we should move to x11-server
1.18.0 for the 3 release (and also push that to 2014.x, then we have
consistency and won't end up with something where we have to push
another big update shortly after). We need to keep stuff in a state
where we can support current hardware.
I'm already running 1.18.0 here (with the free ATI and Intel drivers),
no problems observed.
