Actually, I don't know anything more than the fact that she's had a
stroke. It's confusing. She and I have been friends for over 40 years,
and was the first true soul mate I ever met. I was 13 and she was in her
40s. She was an independent thinker and way ahead of her time for the
70's. She was then, and remained her whole life a single woman who did
what she wanted to do and never cared what anyone else thought. Some of
the strongest lessons I learned were from her as we were washing her old VW
camper van. She was the only person I ever knew honestly and completely
accepted me with all my faults.

She still lives in our home town, but all her family is in Montana and all
those that I've met have long since passed away. I don't know anyone in
our town to call to follow up except my brother, who has said he'll find
out what he can.

The curious thing about the whole thing is that I got ahold of her by
calling her home phone, which I've been doing for several weeks. I've been
unable to reach her, but that's not unusual for her. She helps out a LOT
of other old people, and was still very active with her church, and was
contantly on the go, driving from Arizona to Montana several times a year
to see her family. Even now in her late 80s she was a powerhouse and never
listened to anyone. When I got hold of her, she told me that she'd had a
stroke because I asked her if she was feeling okay, that she sounded like
something was wrong. She remembered me with no problems, and for the very
few moments that we talked she was very lucid but having difficulty
managing to talk. What I'm wondering is why she was home; or if someone
rerouted her home phone to her hospital room. And there is even a question
in my mind if she went to the hospital at all. I don't have any details,
just guesses. The one thing I do know is that she will not take
recuperating very well.

I'm lucky that Partner/Spouse is an ER director because he can tell me what
she's going through. Also, his dad is recovering from a stroke right now,
too, and was with us for several months last year so I've got some
experience about what to expect.

Thanks for your concern and encouragement. I'll keep the group updated as
I get information. I really appreciate the support!
