Napoli, and Juventus are far out and ahead in the standings,with Napoli leading Juventus by one point. Rounding out the top five are threeteams, separated by two points, but far behind the leaders. They are Lazio, Inter Milan, andRoma. In the Olympics today, men compete for gold medals in thebiathlon (10km sprint), speedskating (5000m) and cross-country skiing(skiathlon). Team USA's Lowell Bailey is a challenger in the 10km sprint, anevent dominated by Norway in previous Olympics. Incidentally, if the trivia master asks you which country has the recordfor greatest number of medals in Winter Olympics, that answer would beNorway. They took home the Biathlon Goldin Sochi. Today the men's luge singles finals will also becontested in Korea. Medals are on the line in speedskating (men's5000m), biathlon (men's 10km sprint) and men's skiathlon. The Dutch arefavorites again in the 5000m, having swept the podium in 2014. Sven Kramer is hoping to repeat past successes this year. Readers of this space will be familiar withSven Kramer. Despite the Norwegian firstname, he competes for Holland. He is a Dutch long track speed skater who haswon an all-time record nine World All-round Championships as well as a recordnine European All-round Championships. He was the Olympic champion of the 5000meters in Vancouver 2010 and Sochi 2014 and won a record 19 gold medals at theWorld Single Distance Championships; eight in the 5000 meters, five in the10,000 meters, and six in the team pursuit. Kramer is the current world recordholder in the team pursuit (alongside Jan Blokhuijsen and Koen Verweij), andbroke the world records in the 5000 m and 10,000 m three times. By winning the2010 World All-round Championship, Kramer became the first speed skater inhistory to win four consecutive world all-round championships, and eightconsecutive international all-round championships. He has been undefeated inthe 18 international all-round championships he participated in since the2006/2007 season. From November 2007 to March 2009 he was ranked first in theAdelskalender, but despite his dominance as an all-round skater has since beensecond on that list to Shani Davis by 0.15 to 0.3 points (seconds on the 500m). He will again be a joy to watch inthese Olympic Games. The figure skating team event isnew in these Olympic Games and have provided many enjoyable hours of viewing sofar. They consist of couples dancing andmen's and ladies' free skates, and the progression through the entirecompetition have included elimination.
