Peter - We're in the middle of development, shipping or not. We know there are performance issues, particularly on SPARC. Things will get better, but this isn't our primary focus right now - getting the feature set necessary to support Sun's business is simply more important. In the end, pkg(5) may be somewhat slower than Svr4 packaging at some operations - but will also do a hell of a lot more, and the patching performance will be much much faster. - Bart -- Bart Smaalders Solaris Kernel Performance barts at cyber.eng.sun.com http://blogs.sun.com/barts "You will contribute more with mercurial than with thunderbird."
