Peter -

We're in the middle of development, shipping or not.  We know there are
performance issues, particularly on SPARC.  Things will get better, but
this isn't our primary focus right now - getting the feature set 
necessary to support Sun's business is simply more important.

In the end, pkg(5) may be somewhat slower than Svr4 packaging at some
operations - but will also do a hell of a lot more, and the patching
performance will be much much faster.
